Little Things
I'm ecstatic. I'm ecstatic because I got a wall at work. It's not even a full size wall. It's a little tiny half-cubicle wall, and it's only on one side of my desk. But it's a wall, and I've got it. I can hang things on it, like drawings from my kids and my coat. My coat! I can hang my coat right by my desk. How cool is that?
I love where I work, but they do this "open floor plan" thing, which is supposedly to improve teamwork, but actually, it's to save space and money. We run rows of desks, four wide, with no dividing walls. Two of these are put face to face, to form a 2x4 rectangle of desks, with a tiny 4ft. dividing wall down the middle. Previously, I had no wall, with two guys on either side.
Now I have a guy on my right side and I have about a square yard of fabric-covered midget cube-wall on my left. But it's the best square yard of fabric ever.
Really, it's amazing what becomes important to you, what you take for granted when you lose it.
I also have a window, but all I see is the branches of a tree and the building across from me. And the glare messes up my screen. So, the window's nice and all, but I love my wall.
All I need now is a filing cabinet for my marble-magnets. Then I'd be set.
