Think for Yourself

I'm all for questioning authority. I think it's extremely important you understand the true motivations of what people are telling you today.

But some people mistake "question authority" for "reject authority" and that's not it at all. If you reject everything out of hand that "The Man" tells you, you're still not questioning & thinking for yourself. You've got a knee-jerk, anti-authority reaction that can be just as dangerous and unthinking as blindly following the people in power.

Remember, authority's often right. Not all the time. But often.

Funny, I just wrote a post in my own blog that ended up singing the praises of questioning everything. Thinking about questioning brought to mind the "question authority" slogan, and I thought, much in the spirit of your post, "no, it's not enough to only question authority." Different path to it, but much the same idea. And at nearly the same time! [twilight zone music plays...]
